ABOUT
Claudio Monteverdi (1643)
Poppea, mistress to Emperor Nerone, will do anything to become queen—anything. One of the first operas based on historical events, we may never know just how much of this Baroque masterpiece was written by attributed composer Monteverdi (there is no surviving original manuscript). However, this decadent tale of passion and political intrigue still resonates with modern audiences and features some of the most gorgeous melodies in opera. Poppea will seduce you.
Sung in Italian with English supertitles.
