Loss. Reflection. Resilience. In this extraordinary virtual program, mezzo-soprano HANNAH LUDWIG and pianist LAURA WARD explore the mental health impacts of the COVID-19 crisis and the devastation and determination of the performing arts world during the pandemic.
From shock triggered by the sudden darkening of theaters, fear of the virus, and despair over loss of careers and loved ones, to finding connection, hope, and healing through music, SONGS FROM A DISTANCE is a powerful snapshot of art—and artists—in the time of COVID-19. Join us after the performance for a Q&A with the artists.
ARTISTS’ NOTE: Songs from a Distance is one perspective of a performer in crisis. Based on observations over the time in the pandemic, this program is designed to reflect the impacts on a performer’s mental health, their community, the city in which they reside, and the loss of loved ones and friends. The separation between performers and the stage means a loss of their purpose, spirituality, and passion. In addition to the performance, this program will provide mental health resources and sources to donate to artist relief funds.
