Fearless

The workshop presentation of Derrick Wang’s Fearless was performed for an audience of some of OperaDelaware’s most devoted fans in the OperaDelaware Studios in April, 2023. Only 100 tickets were sold and the audience got to experience the debut of this mesmerizing new opera.

As we look ahead to future seasons, we hope to bring this compelling opera to audiences across Delaware and around the world.

From the composer and librettist of the acclaimed opera Scalia/Ginsburg comes a new music drama inspired by Hazel Ying Lee, trailblazing aviator of the Women Airforce Service Pilots. The April 2023 workshop of this important new American work celebrated women in aviation, unsung heroes, activism, and the indestructible nature of the human spirit.

What is an opera workshop?

A workshop of a contemporary opera is an exciting look behind-the-scenes at the years of work, training, and collaboration that go into bringing an opera to life. For this workshop, OperaDelaware presented a concert of never-before-heard selections from Derrick Wang’s opera Fearless at the OperaDelaware Studios (4 S. Poplar St.). The composer, director, and cast met for a week to rehearse the piece. They presented excerpts of this new opera to an audience of 100 during an intimate afternoon performance, followed by a Q&A with the creative team.
