ABOUT
Jules Massenet's tragic opera about unrequited love comes to life in this intimate concert setting. Loosely based on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's The Sorrows of Young Werther, the young poet Werther professes his love for Charlotte, but she is betrothed to another. When Charlotte finally declares her love, it is too late for the doomed couple.
Tenor Brian Cheney stars in the title role, with Chrystal E. Williams as Charlotte, Vanessa Becerra as Sophie, and Andrew Pardini as Albert. Rachelle Jonck conducts this thrilling performance from the piano. Also featuring members of the Wilmington Children’s Chorus.
Sung in French, with English Supertitles.
